Said Barnacle Bill the Sailor…

October 19, 2008

So Wednesday has been and gone, and I spent the morning at BBC Television Centre in London, watching them film that days ‘Blue Peter’. It was a fantastic experience, having been a fan since a young age.

It was cool to watch them put the show together, and afterwards we got the chance to sit on the sofa and chat to the presenters, before heading off to mooch around in the Blue Peter garden.

All in all – it was a fantastic day (which provided the chance to do a bit of Xmas shopping on regent street, too). And I’d like to wish the show a happy 50th birthday, celebrated on Thursday!

Just a manic 48 Hours

October 2, 2008

So the new term on my course has kicked in, and we’ve just completed a second 48-hour film challenge. We were given – in groups of 4 – a super 8 camera and 3 minutes 20 worth of film. Being shot on Super 8, we can’t review the actual results for about two weeks – which makes our rather surreal film all the more exciting. I can’t compalin about a day watching Lara pour milk over Drew’s head…

We filmed out an an old abandoned part of the Hellesdon Hospital, and utilised the remote, unusual, location to make the film as random and as weird as we could.

I start work shortly on my first proper film of the year, and I’m trying to iron out all the kinks. It’s going to be taking into account the usual motifs of my films – including the passage of time and the effect it has on everything.
